  • Lake Strzeszyńskie

The lake is a natural water reservoir and the cleanest of all larger bodies of water near Poznań. It is located amidst forests north-west of the city (around 10km from the city centre). The lake covers an area of 34.9 hectares and reaches a depth of 17.8 metres. Surrounded by deciduous forests and pine woods, it is a popular recreational spot. The typical vendace fishing venue is operated by the Polish Angling Association but the lake also contains carp, eel, carp bream, tench, pike, silver bream, bleak, roach, perch, common whitefish, crucian and gudgeon. In summer the lake is a very attractive recreational spot with a bathing beach, a motel and a restaurant. There are also summer cottages for rent and a camping site for around 150 tourists.

  • Lake Rusałka

Lake Rusałka was created in 1943 by damming up the Bogdanka River. The reservoir covers and area of 36.7 hectares and reaches a depth of 9 metres. The shoreline is 3300 metres long with a bathing beach located on the northern side. The lake is a typical zander fishing venue operated by the Polish Angling Association. Close to the lake is the Golęcin forest area; walking trails wend their ways through alder woods and riparian strips. The barracks near the lake feature the Museum of Armoured Weapons with the famous "Rudy' tank known from the TV series Czterej pancerni i pies [Four tank crewmen and a dog].

  • Lake Malta

Named after the Knights of Malta, also known as the Knights Hospitaller, who had a commandry, church and infirmary here. The lake is known for major kayak and rowing events. It was created by damming up the Cybina River and covers an area of 64 hectares. The regatta course (one of the best in Europe) is 2190 metres long and from 170m to 400m wide. The western part of the lake features the largest fountain in Poznań built to commemorate the 750th anniversary of the foundation of the city.  Hidden underground along the north-west bank of lake are thermal springs; there are plans to use them during the scheduled construction of an aqua-park. The narrow-gauge track of the Maltanka children's train runs along the north shore to the Zwierzyniec end station located near the Wielkopolska Zoological Gardens (the New Zoo). The south bank features an all-year ski slope and a toboggan-run on Wolności hill. Located at the foot of the slope is a driving range and a mini-golf course; there is also a bathing beach nearby. In summer Lake Malta features open-air performances during the International Theatre Festival. In winter a skating rink opens on the west bank of the lake.

  • Lake Kierskie

Not only for Poznanians does Lake Kierskie epitomise an ideal spot for water sports and recreation in the open air. Located in the reception basin of the Samica River, it is a typical ribbon lake, 4800 metres long and 2100 metres wide, stretching from Krzyżowniki to Kiekrz. The lake covers an area of 285 hectares and reaches a depth of 37.6 metres. It is regularly stocked by the Polish Angling Association and is open to anglers throughout the year. And they come in great numbers, first of all to hunt vendace, though the lake is also rewarding for eel, zander, pike, perch, white amur, carp and carp bream. Both boat and shore fishing is allowed. Lake Kierskie is particularly popular with yachtsmen. The Wielkopolska Yacht Club was established in Kiekrz in 1933 and several other yachting clubs have their marinas along the banks. Sailors from Kiekrz have participated in the Olympic Games and other major yachting events and have several achievements under their belt. In winter you can meet iceboat and iceboard sailors and glider pilots equipped with skates or skis. The 12-kilometre shoreline provides wonderful recreational opportunities for bicycling and walking. There are two life guarded bathing beaches in Krzyżowniki and Kiekrz and many recreational and training centres.
